So here we have more nonsense from the “Deep State”.
Let me provide a response from Alan Dershowitz, AFAIK a Democrat:
President Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital is a perfect response to President Obama’s benighted decision to change American policy by engineering the United Nations Security Council Resolution declaring Judaism’s holiest places in Jerusalem to be occupied territory and a “flagrant violation under international law.” It was President Obama who changed the status quo and made peace more difficult, by handing the Palestinians enormous leverage in future negotiations and disincentivizing them from making a compromised peace. [emphasis mine]
What Mr. Trump did was simply to restore the balance, after Obama “gave away the farm” with his “cowardly decision to wait until he was a lame-duck president to get even with Prime Minister Netanyahu.”
The UN has completely discredited itself with its unwarranted and illegal interference with the traditional laws of war: Israel conquered that territory in a war that Jordan, among others, started without a declaration. (Their ally Egypt closed the straits of Tiran and thus the Gulf of Aqaba.)
It is up to Israel, in negotiations with its enemies, to determine whether, and how much of, the territory it occupied winning that war should be returned.
The UN has no ability, or authority, to determine “law”, and its pretense of doing so clearly demonstrates its uselessness. Many powers have ignored the UN, including Russia (and the Soviet Union before that), China, and the US.
It has never been anything but a tool of political manipulation, by bandit nations and NGO’s, and its blatant anti-semitism, as well as the numerous corrupt actions it and its subordinate organizations have taken over the years, make it deserving only of contempt.
As Mr. Trump stated, his decision to move the embassy to Jerusalem, and recognize what has been true since 1948 — that Jerusalem is the capital city of Israel — doesn’t impact Israel’s freedom, negotiating with its enemies, to return as much or little of the territory it seized winning that war as it considers appropriate.
So, to further quote Mr. Dershowitz:
[… L]et’s praise President Trump for doing the right thing by undoing the wrong thing President Obama did at the end of his presidency.
