What you seem to be missing is that Mr. Trump has committed to a prediction that “Obamacare” will explode/implode. If you assume his strategy is based on that, it makes perfect sense. Soon enough the Democrats will be desperate.
Give the Ryan crowd a chance to forge a unified Republican consensus bill, and support it as a “team player” (a term he used in his on-line address), but when it fails, fall back to his original plan.
Which was to work later on with Democrats desperate to rescue their failing “Obamacare” program, as well as Republicans of all stripes, to “piece together a great healthcare plan for THE PEOPLE.”
The end result will be something the Democrats can call “tweaking Obamacare”, although some to the “tweaks” will involve rebuilding the guts of parts of it. And the Republicans will be able to call it “repeal and replace”, although some (many?) of the replacements will look a lot like the originals.
And Mr. Trump will be able to call it “a great healthcare plan for THE PEOPLE.”
